Hikal Launches Month-Long Tree Plantation Drive at Panoli on World Environment Day

Reinforcing its commitment to a greener planet, Hikal Limited – a trusted partner to global life sciences companies – has launched a month-long tree plantation campaign at its manufacturing facility in Panoli, Gujarat, to mark World Environment Day. As part of this initiative, the company plans to plant 500 trees throughout the month of June, aiming to increase the site’s green cover by 5%.

This plantation drive is a key part of Hikal’s broader vision of integrating environmental stewardship into its daily operations. It reflects the company’s commitment to responsible growth and site-level sustainability.

The campaign also aligns with Hikal’s extensive commitment to sustainable practices across its operations footprint. The Panoli site houses major divisions including Pharmaceuticals, Animal Health, and Crop Protection, and stands as an example of balancing industrial growth with environmental responsibility.

Hikal’s environmental initiatives are driven by its ESG strategy, with a focus on decarbonization, material circularity, and water management. In the financial year 2023–24, the company achieved a 42.77% reduction in water consumption and a 9.96% increase in renewable energy usage compared to the previous year. Investments in energy efficiency led to annual savings of INR 27.8 million.

Under its CSR program ‘Srujan’, Hikal has undertaken multiple environmental projects. Notably, the company completed the rejuvenation of Konasandra Lake near its Jigani plant in Bengaluru, enhancing water storage capacity and benefiting the local ecosystem. In addition, Hikal has partnered with the International Association for Human Values for an afforestation project at Tetalwadi, Rabale, involving plantation and maintenance of trees on barren hills.

Vijaykumar D. Rakholia, Regional Officer of the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB), Ankleshwar, remarked,
“World Environment Day reminds us of our collective duty to protect and preserve the natural environment. Companies like Hikal are setting a positive example in Ankleshwar and Panoli through on-ground initiatives that promote ecological balance and community well-being. These efforts are vital in shaping a sustainable industrial ecosystem for the future.”

Ratheesh Jha, Head of Human Resources at Hikal, stated,
“At Hikal, sustainability begins with our people. Our teams are working collectively across locations to drive this plantation effort. Every contribution we make reflects a shared spirit of purpose and care for the environment. When collaboration becomes a way of life, sustainability becomes part of everyday work.”

With such proactive environmental actions, Hikal’s Panoli facility stands as a testament to how operational excellence and ecological responsibility can go hand in hand. The company plans to further scale up such initiatives in the coming months, aiming not only to strengthen internal sustainability but also to create lasting value for the surrounding ecosystem and communities.
